This striking single plank product is our 116mm Vintage Click Brushed and Lacquered Solid European Oak Wood Flooring, 18mm Thick (product code SO1049C).
‘Click’ solid wood flooring has some distinct advantages, which include a completely mess free way of installation without the need of any glue or secret nails for the joining mechanism to work. In addition, products that use the click joining mechanism can easily be taken up and re-laid at any stage. This is particularly beneficial if you/your fitter decide to reposition any individual planks that may have been slightly damaged or would look better elsewhere in the room/area.
A plank width of 116mm (11.6cm) is thought to be fairly narrow considering we stock products that are up to 300mm (30cm) in width. However, a 116mm plank width is also wide enough for most rooms within the home; particularly bedrooms and hallways. Luxury Flooring’s 116mm Click Brushed And Lacquered Solid European Oak Wood Flooring, 18mm Thick has a total plank width of 116mm (11.6cm) and comes in random lengths between 300mm and 1200mm. A random length (RL) product enables you/your fitter to lay individual planks in a staggered formation with the ultimate goal of creating a free flowing, natural looking floor.
116mm Click Brushed & Lacquered Solid European Oak Wood Flooring, 18mm Thick is a ‘brushed’ product; a process that eradicates the softer grain from the surface, leaving you with a textured, extremely natural looking surface. Approximately seven layers of lacquer is then added to the timber. This final stage of the process completely seals the timber, protecting it against any spillages. However as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible. We would highly recommend a brushed and lacquered finish if you have young children and/or pets with claws in your household, as scratches/marks to the surface area are not as evident on a ‘brushed’ product.
As this floor is 18mm thick, you would be able to sand down and refinish this product up to 6 times, however, this should not be necessary for the first 15-20 years.
The grade of our SO1049C is ABC. This may be referred to as ‘rustic’ on other flooring supplier’s websites. This means the planks have more knots and natural imperfections; giving the product much more character and warmth. This is seen as one of the main attractions when purchasing a real wood product.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
