Another beautifully crafted brushed and oiled solid European oak product. This particular product is made up of 20mm (2cm) of solid European (German) oak that has been carefully finished with several layers (approximately 7) of Osmo’s hard wax oil. This not only creates an extremely hardwearing surface but also leaves you with a matt, natural looking finish perfect for installation in both commercial and residential properties. A brush is scraped over the surface of each board before any oil is added, removing only the softer grain. This creates a textured, natural feel and look to each plank. An additional benefit of purchasing a ‘brushed’ product is that the brushed design makes it near impossible for any scratches to become noticeable given the fact that their surface area is already textured; just the thing for households with young children and/or pets with claws.

The width of this particular lacquered product is 130mm (13cm), which is fairly unconventional given that the vast majority of the narrower planks usually come in either a 120mm or a 125mm. The 130mm (13cm) width is perfect for residential properties, particularly bedrooms and studies.

The grade of our 130mm Brushed And Oiled Solid European Oak Wood Flooring, 20mm Thick is ABC (other suppliers/manufacturers may refer to this grade as ‘rustic’ on their sites). This simply means there will be infrequent natural knots and imperfections within the batch – giving the product that natural, flowing feel and look.

Our ABC grade products are by far the most popular products here at luxuryflooring.co.uk because of the natural knots, imperfections and variation that can only be achieved with a rustic, solid wood product. Here at luxuryflooring.co.uk, we source all of our solid oak from neighbouring European countries (mainly Germany). This enables us to offer consistency on all of our solid European oak products which is extremely useful if you realise you need more timber for your project(s) even years after the work was started. The sourcing of this high quality solid European oak permits us to offer an extensive manufacturer’s guarantee of 25 years.

The total thickness of this product is 20mm (2cm), which allows you to sand down and refinish this product in the region of 6-8 times. However, you would not be required to sand and refinish the surface for the first 10-15 years.

This is a tongue and groove (T&G) product. This method of joining solid oak planks gives you three different installation options. Option one is a ‘floating floor’ and is achieved by gluing the tongue and groove parts of the board and allow the floor as a whole to float, usually cushioned with use of an underlay. Option two would be to secret nail the tongue part of the plank into a wooden subfloor. Finally, option three would be to stick the timber directly onto the subfloor with use of flooring adhesive.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
