Our Golden Hand Scraped and Lacquered Solid European Oak Wood Flooring (product code SO3029) comes in random lengths ranging from 400mm to 2000mm, with a consistent width of 150mm. This is an ideal combination for those who want the traditional look of single strip boards, but love to be unique. The wider planks are an excellent choice for any style of room, but work especially well when fitted in smaller areas. With less visible joins, the impression of more space is given, opening up the room.
Measuring at a total thickness of 20mm, each board promises high levels of structural stability, and can be sanded up to 9 times. This improves the longevity of the flooring, removing the necessity for re-installation if damages begin to surface. However, no harm should come to the face of your boards for at least 10 years. Both the thickness and species of the wood can deal with heavy footfall effectively, proving highly resistant to daily wear and tear. As a token of our faith in the lifespan of this product, we offer a complimentary 25-year guarantee with every purchase.
A rustic grade of European oak has been chosen for this product. This takes the timber’s natural imperfections, such as knots, blemishes, and variations in colour, and uses them to the board’s advantage. To enhance the personality of the wood even further, a micro-bevel has been cut into the edges of each surface, and the process of hand scraping has been achieved during manufacture. Both features make for intriguing textures underfoot, delivering authenticity with the fluctuations in the board’s depth. After each plank has been sculpted, a golden stain is applied to accentuate the colour of the grain. Finally, a lacquer finish is given to the surface, creating a characteristic shine that is low maintenance, spill resistant, and stunningly attractive.
Each board has been designed with easy installation in mind. Whilst this product can be installed using traditional fitting methods, the integrated ‘tongue and groove’ installation system allows each board to fit together safely and securely in a process known as ‘floating’. This removes the need for additional nails and adhesives without compromising the stability of the flooring.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
