The plank width of SO2093 is 180mm (18cm), which is considered a fairly large plank width. A 180mm plank width is ideal for most rooms/spaces within a residential property but would probably look better in a larger room/open plan space. Please note, we also offer this product in a slightly narrower board (150mm), please search product code SO109 for more information on the narrower version of this gorgeous product.
180mm Smoked White Washed Brushed And Oiled European Solid Oak Wood Flooring has a total thickness of 20mm (2cm) thick. A product that is 20mm in thickness can be sanded and refinished up to nine times in total. However, here at Luxury Flooring, we feel this will not be necessary for at least the first ten years but it is the end user’s preference.
This particular product is a random length product. You may see this referred to as ‘RL’ on other flooring supplier’s sites. This products random lengths are between 600-2000mm with the average plank length being 1400mm (140cm). A RL product enables you to lay the floor in a staggered formation, which improves the overall natural look and flow of the flooring.
This product has been lightly brushed and finished with hard wax oil (approximately seven coats of oil are added to the timber at this stage of the process). The brushing of the timber gives each board a textured, very natural feel before a white washed stain is added to the grain to achieve the desired finish.
If you require any further information on this or any other of our products please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team on 0333 577 0025.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
