Our White Brushed and Oiled Engineered European Oak Wood Flooring (product code EO4032) combines the decorative flair of a highly favoured species with a bespoke choice of finishes. The 3mm wear layer of solid oak has been expertly chosen with character and strength in mind, and can be sanded up to 3 times to preserve the quality of the wood. We have chosen an ABC grade for the solid wood veneer, taking advantage of the natural blemishes, knots, and fine grains to create a perfectly balanced appearance. Added to this is a multi-ply base, measuring at 11mm. The thickness of the board provides effective defence against low-to-moderate foot traffic, and is suitable for areas with extreme conditions. This is due to the board’s superior construction of compressed timbers, making the flooring suitable for kitchens, conservatories, and over underfloor heating.
The outstanding visual qualities of European oak are enhanced by the width and varying lengths of each board. Measuring at 180mm, this flooring has a versatile appearance that brings proportion to both small and large spaces. In addition, with random lengths ranging from 300mm to 1800mm, every board is unique, exhibiting a varying spectrum of oak’s bespoke personality. This is enhanced further by the inclusion of a brushed and oiled finish. Each board has had new growth removed during the manufacturing process, creating a rustic aesthetic. Alongside this, oil is applied to strengthen the wood. Opposed to sitting above the surface, the oil is absorbed into the grain, preserving its naturalistic qualities. Finally, the boards are bathed in an elegant white stain, elevating the lightness of the oak surface to new heights.
For added depth, this choice of flooring utilises a micro-bevel. The sloping edges create a small indent in the join, giving each board distinction. Micro-bevelled edges also improve textures underfoot, making for a more authentic look and feel.
This product makes installation quick and easy. Engineered flooring is fitted with an integrated ‘tongue and groove’ system, specially designed to allow each board to fit securely into one another. This process, known as floating, removes the need for nails and adhesives, saving excessive labour and costs. Whether you choose to float your flooring, or fix directly to your subfloor, EO4032 comes with an impressive 25-year guarantee, assuring incredible longevity.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
