The 190mm Pearl Satin Lacquered Engineered European Oak Wood Flooring is 190mm wide, 20mm thick with a 5mm wear layer, and comes in random lengths of 300-1800mm. These random lengths will make the floor look much more natural and rustic which adds a touch of style to your home. At 20mm thick, this product can also be sanded down up to 7 times if desired. It has beveled edges too for greater depth and definition. The fact we offer a 25 year guarantee demonstrates the faith we have in the quality and your satisfaction with this product.

This is an engineered floor, meaning as the planks are constructed with solid wood as a top layer only and other materials underneath, they are more stable than solid wood, and can better handle changes in humidity without warping or shrinking. They are also suitable with underfloor heating, bathrooms, kitchens, and rooms with lots of natural light for this reason. Despite the differences, the planks look just the same as solid wood planks on the surface, meaning an authentic look is still achieved.

The pearl satin lacquer finish will add extra protection to the floor, meaning it can better withstand footfall, spillages and risks of scratching for example. For this reason, this product is common is kitchens and dining rooms. Lacquers do not allow liquid to seep through the wood, but we still recommend cleaning spillages up as soon as possible. Overall, your floor will be more sturdy due to the lacquering, but whilst maintaining that natural look that comes with this floor.

This is an ABC graded floor, also known as rustic grade. This means there is a natural look to the wood, complete with grain, knots and natural blemishes and imperfections. You should note these vary between floors, so each one is unique. In combination with the random length planks, you will achieve the ultimate rustic look with this floor!

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
