190mm Oiled Engineered European Oak Wood Flooring – product code EO1049 - has a total thickness of 20mm with a 6mm solid hardtop wear layer. This product comes in fixed lengths of 1900mm. This product is pre finished with a UV oil which gives the flooring an ultra strong protection from any damage including day to day wear and tear as well as giving a beautiful look.

Each plank has a 4V Groove, bevelled edge giving each plank a unique definition that can rival the real thing. This floor can be sanded down up to 5 times however it shouldn't be necessary to do so for the first 15-20 years, plus this product also comes with our 25 guarantee, so you can relax knowing your floor will retain its high quality for years. The grade of this product is prime, which means the product comes with natural imperfections and knots on the surface. Rustic is the most popular finish in the industry as it offers that same incredible look of wood with all the added benefits of an engineered floor.

The EO1049 can be installed using one of three techniques. Option one, ‘floating floor’, is achieved by gluing the tongue and groove parts of the board and allow the floor as a whole to float, usually cushioned with use of an underlay. Option two would be to secret nail the tongue part of the plank into a wooden subfloor. Finally, option three would be to stick the timber directly onto the subfloor with use of flooring adhesive. Please see the full, downloadable installation guide in the installation tab above for more information.

Engineered floor doesn't only look gorgeous, it is also incredibly practical too. Thanks to the way engineered flooring is constructed the material is incredibly hard wearing. This means that it is perfect for using in kitchens, where exposure to dirt is quite common. Engineered flooring, unlike some other flooring, is able to endure fluctuations temperatures. Because of this, it is also suitable for use with underfloor heating and can be used in rooms such as conservatories and basements without perishing.

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
