Smoked Brushed & Oiled Versailles Oak Engineered Wood Flooring is 580m(W)x580m(L) and 20mm thick with a 6mm wear layer. The fact we offer a 25 year guarantee with this product truly shows just how much faith we have in its quality and durability.

The planks are engineered, meaning they have greater stability than solid wood and can handle humidity changes better, but look just the same. This makes them suitable for underfloor heating, and more resistant to warping or shrinkage in such conditions - so are bathroom and kitchen friendly too! They will also last longer than solid wood in rooms with lots of natural light, due to the temperature changes this brings.

The beveled edges on this flooring add depth and definition, meaning they make a room look larger. The fact this floor is oak also adds atmosphere to a room - the grain and knots add elegance, whereas the shade fits in with modern dark and wooden decor.

The Versailles pattern builds on the elegance of the oak, in that it is vintage and reminiscent of 17th century mansions. The pattern is something unique to ordinary engineered wood flooring, and is different to all other forms of parquet flooring too. It has lots of character and will help create an image of sophistication. The parquet flooring is practical too - it is easier to replace the smaller blocks in the rare occasion they become damaged, and they can be better arranged how you want for greater personalisation.

This floor is smoked, brushed and oiled. Smoking means ammonia has been used to achieve this particular shade. As the process results in tannins coming to the surface, the shade runs throughout and does not change over time. This ensures longevity of the beautiful finish you purchased. The brushing means there is a texture to the planks, bringing out their natural appearance much more - these also effectively hide scratches which is useful in busy or clumsy households with children or pets. The oil has protective qualities, as well as brining out the natural grain of the wood much more once it has sunk in. This is useful in rustic homes or for those who simply enjoy the natural properties of wood.

You can install this floor using many different methods, of which are detailed in our installation guide in the ‘installation’ tab above.

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
