70mm x 230mm Natural Unfinished Solid Oak Parquet Wood Flooring Blocks – product code PAR201 - has a total thickness of 22mm with a width of 70mm. This product comes in fixed lengths of 230mm and comes in parquet style blocks and is unfinished allowing the end user to finish it to how they desire. Over recent years self finishing has become more popular as there are now many different oils and lacquers on market, which are more precise to meet certain requirements.

Each plank has a square edge giving each plank more definition individually. The grade of this product is rustic meaning the planks have more knots and imperfections giving the product much more character and warmth. This floor should not be 'floated' as the planks could be lifted, which is why it is best to glue your solid wood floor. The glueing method works by the planks being stuck directly onto the subfloor with use of flooring adhesive. Please see the full, downloadable installation guide in the installation tab above for more information or call us to find out more.

Solid wood floor is incredibly durable, lasting a lifetime. Additionally, solid wood floors attract less dust, allergens and mould making it not only a beautiful choice, but a hygienic one too. Thanks to the strength of solid wood flooring, your floor will look stunning even in high traffic areas. Because of it's natural state however, it is not recommended that you use a solid wood floor with underfloor heating as it is unable to expand and contract with such fluctuations in temperatures. As well as this, the parquet flooring is a huge trend this year and is currently the favourite among interior designers. This means that installing as parquet style floor in your home would help to instantly modernise and bring some life to your floor.

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
