This smooth natural solid oak flooring product comes pre finished with seven coats of the finest pearl satin UV lacquer, sealing and protecting the natural product from any stains and spillages. This pearl satin lacquered finish, more or less makes the surface of the product water resistant, so if you do happen to have an accident this will simply just mop up without seeping into the surface, however as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible. A pearl satin lacquer gives the plank a shinier surface than an oiled board which displays more of a matt effect. 90mm (9cm) is the width of this solid oak product which is deemed as a narrow plank, narrow boards are ideal if you are wanting to make a room look more spacious, as you can fit more individual planks inside the area required. The total board thickness is 18mm (1.8cm) meaning this product can be sanded and refinished up to seven times, giving this product on display and extremely long shelf life of over 100 years. The sanding and refinishing process usually happens once every 15-20 years. This product comes in random lengths between 300-1200mm (30-120cm), so this will allow you to lay the flooring in a staggered natural pattern. This solid oak can be laid the three usual ways; secret nailed to the sub floor, fully glued down, or laid as a floating floor, where you simply glue the tongue and groove together. We would always recommend you install any solid wood flooring on top of a level sub floor. This will prevent the flooring from moving when walked upon. All our natural oak flooring products are sourced from European forests as the durability and consistency is second to none, therefore this allows us to offer a 25 year guarantee, giving you a complete piece of mind prior to purchasing. The grade of this product is rustic often know as ABC, the product grading allows the end user to understand how many knots will appear on the surface. A rustic grade will offer quite a few knots and imperfections which is often seen as the main attraction when purchasing hardwood flooring.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
