The 90mm x 600mm Double Smoked & UV Oiled Chevron Engineered Oak Wood Flooring is 90mm wide x 600mm long and 18mm thick with a 4mm wear layer. It has beveled edges for greater depth and definition to help make a room look larger. The fact we offer a 25 year guarantee demonstrates the faith we have in the quality and your satisfaction with this product.
Chevron patterned floors help make a room look more sophisticated thanks to their history of use by rich and respectable homeowners. They also help make a room look larger and guide the eyes to an area, which can be used to your advantage if you wish to accentuate a specific piece of furniture. We recommend this floor for those aiming for a vintage or expensive look, and particularly amongst furniture of a similar warm shade.
A double smoked floor creates a unique and warm dark tone that makes a home comfortable and homely. It is darker than single smoked floors, and looks like it has naturally aged over time. It also allows other effects to be added such as colouring or further finishes. Smoking involves a process of fuming the floor deeply so that tannins rise to the surface and change the tone of the wood several layers deep. This means the floor can be sanded several times before losing the smoked appearance.
This floor has also been UV oiled, meaning there is a layer of protection added that has seeped into the wood rather than creating a film like a lacquer wood. This oil helps retain the texture and natural appearance of the floor as well as protecting it from water and sun damage.
The ABCD grade, also known as mixed grade, means knots, grain, cracks, colour variation and mineral staining are more prominent in order to crate a natural, rustic look. As there is little alteration to the raw material, expect differences between planks that will make your floor unique and original, whilst replicating the finish of old fashioned parquet floors. A benefit of this grade is that what other floors would consider ‘damage’, for example scratches, on this floor only serve to add to the rustic effect, meaning your floor will only improve with age and is therefore excellent value for money.
Engineered planks use solid wood on the surface, and more stable materials underneath that can handle changes in humidity. Unlike solid wood products, this means engineered wood is suitable for underfloor heating, and more resistant to warping or shrinkage from temperature changes. This makes it suitable for use in rooms where spillages occur, or in high temperature climates.
This floor can be installed using the ‘floating floor’ method, which involves gluing the tongue and groove parts of the board together, usually cushioned with an underlay. Instead, a ‘secret nail’ in the tongue of each plank can be used to attach the planks to a wooden subfloor as a separate method. A third method is using a flooring adhesive to stick the wood directly on to the subfloor. Please see the full, downloadable installation guide in the installation tab above for more information, and to find out which would be best for your home.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
