The Chamonix Cognac Oak 90 x 600 x 18/4mm Chevron Engineered Oak Wood Flooring is 90mm wide x 600mm long and 18mm thick with a 4mm wear layer. It has beveled edges for greater depth and definition to help make a room look larger. The fact we offer a 25 year guarantee demonstrates the faith we have in the quality and your satisfaction with this product.
A chevron patterned floor will help make your room look more sophisticated thanks to the history of use by rich and respectable homeowners. The pattern also helps make a room look larger and guides the eyes to an area, helping accentuate a specific piece of furniture if desired. It creates a natural flow to a room, tying the place together regardless of size. We recommend this floor for those aiming for a vintage or expensive look, and particularly amongst wooden furniture of a similar dark shade. Bright colours may also well compliment this floor.
A smoked floor makes any room more comfortable and homely thanks to its warm tone. It is not as dark as double smoked floors, but has a more saturated appearance colour wise than unfinished wood. This helps make the floor appear less plain, and more characterful. The smoking process involves fuming a floor to entice natural tannins in the wood to rise. As these tannins are several layers deep, the floor may be sanded multiple times if desired without the effect fading.
This floor has also been brushed, to make a texture that is much more rough and natural feeling. This is excellent for those who like a wood floor to really feel and look like a wood floor. This is retained by the fact it is oiled, which offers a layer of protection without harming the texture. This is due to the fact it sinks into the floor to work on a molecular level, to make the floor stronger and more water resistant, rather than creating a film like a lacquer wood. This oil, being natural and somewhat dark in tone, helps retain the texture and natural appearance of the floor as well as protecting it from water damage. Without natural oil, an oak smoked floor would more closely resemble beige than brown.
The ABCD or mixed grade, means knots, grain, cracks, colour variation and mineral staining are prominent in order to create a natural, rustic look. As there is little alteration made to the raw material, expect differences between planks that will make your floor unique and original. A benefit of this grade is that what other floors would consider ‘damage’, for example scratches, will only add to the rustic effect, meaning your floor will only improve with age and is therefore excellent value for money.
Engineered planks use solid wood on the surface, and more stable materials underneath that can handle changes in humidity. This means engineered floors are suitable for underfloor heating, and more resistant to warping or shrinkage from temperature changes, despite thei incorporation of solid wood. This makes this floor suitable for use in rooms where spillages occur, or in high temperature climates such as those with lots of natural light.
This floor can be installed using the ‘floating floor’ method, which involves gluing the tongue and groove parts of the board together, usually cushioned with an underlay. Instead, a ‘secret nail’ in the tongue of each plank can be used to attach the planks to a wooden subfloor as a separate method. A third method is using a flooring adhesive to stick the wood directly on to the subfloor. Please see the full, downloadable installation guide in the installation tab above for more information, and to find out which would be best for your home.
If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
