This beautiful mid oak lacquered product is amongst the most popular prime (AB) grade engineered options available here at Luxury Flooring.

Our Elgin Palace Oak 190 x 20/4mm, product code EO2018, has a plank width of 190mm. This width is deemed fairly wide but 190mm floorboards are extremely popular in the UK has they tend to suit the average sized room well. Our EO2018 is a fixed length product. The fixed lengths for this product are 1900mm (190cm) in length. Our 190mm Prime Pearl Satin Lacquered Engineered European Oak Wood Flooring 20/4mm Thick is elegantly prefinished with seven layers of pearl satin lacquer that make it easy to maintain and incredibly durable. A lacquered finish will offer a smooth, glossy finish that makes it the ideal finish for modern households.

This product has a total thickness of 20mm (2cm). 16mm of this thickness is made up of multi ply backing that increases the stability and durability of the product overall. The remaining 4mm is solid European oak sourced from Germany. A wear layer or veneer of 4mm is considered extremely hardwearing. You have the option to sand down and refinish this product up to 5 times in total but we don’t believe this will be necessary for the first 10-15 years.

If you do decide to sand down this product, you would be required to refinish it with more lacquer or another finish of your choice. Please see our ‘Oils, Waxes and Lacquer’ tab in the ‘Accessories’ section.

Here at Luxury Flooring, all our oak is sourced from a sustainable European forestry ensuring the best quality timber whilst safeguarding the future supply and most importantly, the environment. The grade of this product is prime, eliminating any knots or imperfections, so if you are looking for a clean board, this could well be the product for you. All our engineered products are also compatible with under floor heating (UFH) both water and electrical based systems.

This particular product is relatively easy to lay as you are not required to fully fix it down to the subfloor. The two most common methods of installation when it comes to engineered products would be either to lay it as a floating floor above an underlay or alternatively secret nail the floorboards directly to the wooden subfloor beneath.

If you require any matching accessories for your project, please see our accessories section above where we offer thresholds, beading and other accessories in the same lacquered finish. If you require any further assistance, product specific or general enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our lovely team on 0333 577 0025 who will be more than happy to help.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
