Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood has grown hugely in popularity in recent years and is an excellent modern alternative to solid wood. Unlike solid wood, engineered wood is composed of multiple layers of compressed timber, before being finished with a top layer of solid wood veneer. As a result, engineered wood comes with it a variety of practical qualities over solid wood such as it being compatible with under-floor heating. Once more, it still boasts that desirable authentic look that solid does.

The Benefits

The unique construction of engineered wood flooring is proven to be more resistant to moisture and humidity than solid wood, making it an ideal solution for underfloor heating. In addition, engineered wood floors can be floated using a ‘click’ or ‘tongue and groove’ installation system. This allows the installation process to be quicker and easier than when placing solid wood floors, eliminating the need for adhesive and nails.

The Species

We offer a range of species for the high-quality wear layer of our engineered wood flooring, including oak, walnut, and acacia. Engineered oak has remained a popular wood flooring choice for its traditional, decorative flair. The stunning close grain of oak makes it an absolute classic. Walnut flooring brings a tidy and streamlined feel to your home. As one of the softest woods on the market, walnut delivers a sleek and stylish appearance that is rich in colour. Engineered acacia delivers high contrast, deep textures. With over 980 species of Acacia in the world today, you will never be stuck for variety.

The Finish

Similarly to solid wood floors, our engineered wood flooring is available in a number of bespoke finishes. Whilst the natural feel of oil and the elegant look of lacquer have remained two of our most popular options, we have an extensive stock of finishes to fit perfectly with your home. Whether it’s the Scandinavian chic of white washed wood, or the unique depth and texture of a distressed board, we have finishes to suit your exact needs.

The Dimensions

There are three things to consider when selecting the size of your flooring: width, thickness, and wear layer. Whilst the width of your board is entirely dependent on your preferred aesthetic, the thickness and wear layer will inform the longevity of your flooring. Our engineered wood floors range from 10mm – 20mm. A thicker board will be more stable, and will allow for a deeper wear layer. In turn, your floors will be able to be sanded and re-finished more times than with a thinner board. Whilst our 10mm boards come with a 2.5mm wear layer, our 20mm flooring allows for up to 6mm. A wear layer of this size can be sanded and re-finished up to 7 times!
