Kettlewell Bloom Oak 127 x 10/2.5mm – product code HD2092 - is 10mm thick with a 2.5mm solid hardtop wear layer. This product comes in fixed lengths of 1200mm with starter boards at 300, 600 and 900mm to help keep a uniform pattern. This product is lightly brushed and finished with a pearl satin UV lacquer which gives the plank more texture and character as well as a gorgeous colour.

Each plank has a 4V Groove, bevelled edge giving each individual plank better definition. This floor can be sanded down up to 2 times however it shouldn't be necessary to do so for the first 15-20 years, plus, this product comes with our 25 year guarantee so you can rest assured your floor will look amazing for years to come. The grade of this product is rustic, the most popular in the industry, meaning the product comes with natural knots and imperfections that add great warmth to the floor.

The HD2092 is installed using a click system. Similar to a jigsaw, click system floors work by fitting the planks together so that they 'click' in to place. The click system makes it easy for any DIY project and makes for a quick process.

Engineered wood flooring looks incredible but it is also incredibly practical too. Engineered wood flooring is made from layers of plywood stuck together before being finished with a layer of lamella. This means engineered wood flooring can have many more applications in comparison to a solid wood for example. Engineered wood floor can therefore be used with underfloor heating and is also suitable for using in conservatories and even basements. Similarly, engineered wood floor is incredibly resistant and can therefore withstand splashes, spillages and every day wear and tear. However as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.

This has got to be one of the best engineered floors that I have come across and I've done quite a few floors now. It is pretty hard to lay because the lock system is so good once it joints it pulls in really well so I am well pleased with the extra effort, not that it was that much once you work out how to do it. Service, Cost and Delivery all excellent too.
