Kettlewell Conker Oak 127 x 10/2.5mm Engineered Oak Wood Flooring has a total thickness of 10mm a width of 127mm and a wear layer of 2.5mm. This oak product comes in fixed lengths of 1200mm with starter boards at 300, 600 and 900mm to help keep a uniform pattern. It is brushed before being elegantly pre finished with seven coats of chocolate stained UV lacquer, giving it ultimate protection, durability, ease of maintenance and a stunning aesthetic.

Each plank has a V Groove, bevelled edge giving each plank more unique, natural definition. This floor can be sanded down up to 2 times however it shouldn't be necessary to do so for the first 15-20 years. The grade of this product is rustic, which means the plank has more knots, giving the product much more natural character.

Engineered wood floor is incredibly resistant and can therefore withstand splashes, spillages and every day wear and tear. However as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible. It is also suitable to be used with underfloor heating, something that is increasingly popular in most modern homes. Engineered wood flooring has the ability to withstand fluctuations in temperatures and can therefore also be used in rooms where a solid wood could not, such as conservatories or even basements.

The HD2109 is installed using a click system. Similar to a jigsaw, click system floors work by fitting the planks together so that they 'click' in to place. The click system makes it easy for any DIY project and makes for a quick process. Please see the full, downloadable installation guide in the installation tab above for more information.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
