Malham Thunder Oak 190 x 15/4mm Click – EC3190 - has a total thickness of 15mm with a 4mm solid hardtop wear layer. This product comes in fixed lengths of 1860mm. This product is lightly brushed and finished with a UV oil which gives the plank more texture and character. Each plank has a 4V Groove, bevelled edge which gives each plank a sophisticated sense of character and texture.

This floor can be sanded down up to 5 times however it shouldn't be necessary to do so for the first 15-20 years, and with our 25 year guarantee your floor will look stunning for years. The grade of this product is rustic meaning the planks have more knots and imperfections giving the product much more character and warmth. The rustic grade is the most popular grade in the wood flooring industry.

The EC3190 can be installed using the floating floor click system. The click system works by the planks fitting together using tongues and grooves so that, like a jigsaw, the planks 'click' in place. This simple system is quick and easy meaning any DIY fan should be able to take on the job.

The way in which engineered floor is made makes it incredibly durable. This makes it perfect for use in kitchens where dirt commonly gathers. It is also suitable to be used with underfloor heating, something that is increasingly popular in most modern homes. Engineered wood flooring has the ability to withstand fluctuations in temperatures and can therefore also be used in rooms where a solid wood could not, such as conservatories or even basements.

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor, however, only click planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
