As the years go on engineered wood flooring is becoming a more and more popular flooring solution for those seeking a wood floor, this is simply because of its pure resilience against any moisture and temperature changes. Another major factor of why engineered wood flooring has become more popular is because of its ability to be laid on top of under floor heating, under floor heating is becoming more popular in many homes especially new builds.

Multi-ply engineered wood flooring is constructed together with many layers of ply wood which could range from 4-12 layers of ply. Not all but most multi ply engineered floors have ply wood which is cross layered, glued and tightly pressed together enabling the wood to be extremely strong and durable throughout the whole plank. Just above the multiple layers of ply wood there is more plywood which forms the tongue and groove which allows the board to be laid securely. Above the tongue and groove the plank is then completed with a solid hardwood wear layer which will be finished and stained to the end user requirements

Three ply engineered wood flooring are as the name suggests they are made up of three separate layers consisting of a solid hardwood top wear layer, a core layer of plywood followed by a bottom layer of ply wood whereas multi ply is made up of multiple layers as a pose to 3 layers.

If you are working around a tight budget but require an engineered wood floor, it is best you have a browse around for a three ply construction, as the manufacturing is much cheaper as the factories are simple only gluing and pressing three pieces of wood together whereas multi ply flooring has multiple layers that need gluing and pressing.

Multi ply engineered flooring is known for being more resistant to moisture and a change in temperature from 3 ply simple because many compact layers form a more stable plank than 3 larger layers.

So a summary of this blog is multi ply is slightly more durable than 3 ply, but 3 ply is cheaper to purchase. So it depends on what your requirements are as a customer.
