Solid and engineered wood flooring over recent years have become more and more popular, with many people ripping up their existing floors and replacing them with a wooden floor. At Luxury Flooring and Furnishings we believe there are many reasons for this apart from their strikingly good looks. First of all they are a great investment adding value to your home, so if you are doing a property up and are wanting to make as much money as possible, installing a solid or engineered wood floor is advised by industry professionals. Solid and engineered floors are extremely efficient and kind to the environment which can be sanded down and refinished up to 7 times making them look new again

Carpet offers a lot of warmth under the foot but an engineered wood floor can also offer the same warmth accompanied with under floor heating which is an extremely efficient way off keeping your home warm. If you decide this is option is best for you, the best way of laying your floor on top of electric under floor heating would be as a floating floor but if you opt for a wet under floor heating system you can glue your floor directly to the screed.

If you are concerned about your energy efficiency of your wooden floor there are a few things you can do to enhance it’s efficiency levels. If you are installing a new floor the efficiency levels will be affected by the sub floor, so choosing the correct calibre of underlay is important as it will save you up to 15-20% on your heating costs as no heat will get lost.

Finally over the years natural flooring products can move creating little gaps and spaces which are a result of expansion and contraction, these gaps allow cold air to pass through them so it is advised to install an underlay and a plywood chip board so all the heat will stay in the room eliminating any wasted energy.
