Family living isn’t always easy with both yourself and your home starting to look very tired, very quickly. The increased activity means you need to consider how elements in your home will hold up against this extra traffic. The best place to start is from the bottom up. So, lets take a look at which floor is best for the family home!

With small children running around, scratches and spillages are even more likely to happen. Therefore, you will need a floor that can stand the test of time so durability is key. However, with a family to think about, you might be naturally a little worried about budget. Luckily, striking the balance between price and practicality is easy nowadays and the best floor up to the job is a laminate

As you are probably aware, laminate floors look incredibly similar to solid wood. We could say that laminates are a cheaper version of engineered wood, but instead of a solid wood top layer, they are totally man-made. As well as price, laminate floors trump solid woods on their versatility too. Unlike a natural product, laminates don’t react to temperature fluctuations. This means you can lay them in any room without fear of causing swelling or splitting. This is all thanks to the way laminate floors are constructed. There are four layers to a laminate floor, the bottom called the “backing” which acts as a barrier against the moisture coming from the subfloor. The next layer is the “core” which gives stability to the floor. The image layer is what makes laminate look like real wood and finally a wear layer, which gives extra protection to the surface.

Another added benefit to laminate floors is their water resistance. This is another reason why we think laminate is the prefect floor for kids, since it doesn’t absorb any spills. Because of this water resistance, cleaning is also made that bit easier. A simple sweep and vacuum is enough to keep it clean but for that added extra cleanliness, a warm damp mop will bring back that brand new look. As with any wood floor, laminates are non-porous. This means that dust and or allergens aren’t collected as with a carpet. This means your kids can freely play on the floor without worry of them catching anything nasty.

As you can see, the cheaper price of laminate doesn’t mean you’re skipping out on quality. The same goes for aesthetics as laminate flooring is available in amazing designs that imitate timbers such as oak, walnut or acacia. You will also find laminate in lots of different shades, so be assured that laminate will not limit you when decorating your home to your tastes.

So there you have it, all the reasons we think laminate might be the floor you were looking for. If you would like further information on our laminate floors you can find it here.
