Most solid woods can last at least a hundred years and many thicker engineered wood floors have a lifespan of around 50 years, in this time your floor may need to be taken up. This may be because certain planks have become damaged and need replacing or because you want to relay the floor somewhere else.

The click joining method allows the flooring to be installed extremely easily as the boards just simply click together, without the need for any nails, screws or glue. This also allows click flooring to be taken up easily too. This is the complete opposite to tongue and groove floors as they require the use of screws or glue to be installed, which makes it very difficult if not impossible to take up engineered floors without damaging the planks

When purchasing flooring we would always recommend including 5-10% wastage. If this wastage is not used during the installation process, it should still be kept just in case it is needed to replace any damaged planks. Sometimes floors can become discontinued and customers find it very difficult to find the exact same planks to match their existing floor.

To take up click flooring you need to start by removing all trims from your flooring. You should locate the wall where your installation ended and gently pry the corner board upwards until it comes loose. Once the first board is loose you should work down the rest of the row before progressing forwards. Once the first plank of each row is removed, the rest of the planks should snap apart fairly easily. Be sure not to force the planks loose as this could damage the click system and damage the floor.
