Due the timeless feel and elegance of wood flooring, it has remained a hugely popular choice in homes across the world. Not only is this type of flooring beautiful, but it is durable, practical and versatile too. But sometimes we can neglect our wood floors without even realising it, all because we’re not entirely sure on how to highlight them in a room. With that in mind, here at Luxury Flooring & Furnishings we’ve decided to put together a guide on how to make the most out of your wood floors..

One of the best ways to make your floor the focal statement in your home is to harmonise it with other items in the room, but just how do you do this? Well there are a number of things that you can use to your advantage, the first thing being colourful accents. Nothing can help bring out the richness and versatility of a wood floor like a well-thought out colour scheme.

Of course the colour of your floor will have an impact on the colour of your decor, lets say for example you have a darker stained wood then it would probably work best for you to use lighter colours in your furnishings. The same way that a lighter floor would be best accompanied with dark/rich coloured fabrics and furnishings. That being said, not all wood floors are simply light or dark, there are lots of different shades available from warm red tones to clean white washed boards, all of which can be accompanied with an array of colours. For example, white floors look incredibly good with really colourful furnishings, think outside of the box like a fuchsia pink armchair - this also works with the increasingly popular Scandinavian trend too

If you have wood furnishings in the same room as your wood floor it’s important that you try to avoid matching them with the floor itself, especially things like cabinets. The intentions can be good but it’s rare to find the same species of wood in the floor and the furnishings so it tends to just look a bit daft! It can also be quite confusing as it’s not always easy to tell where the furniture starts and the floor ends, as well as being quite a dated look too. In a nutshell, yes wood furnishings should complement your wood floor, but matching them is not advised.

Another way to draw some attention to your floor is to use a rug, especially in prominent areas of the floor. Again, the shade of floor that you have opted for will contribute to the decision of which shade of rug you purchase and which one will benefit your floor the most. Not only will rugs make your wood floors more eye-catching, they can also protect them against becoming scratched or dented too! Aside of this they can also provide some extra insulation to the floor too, as we all know wood floors can get a little cooler in winter months, a rug is perfect for that comfortable fluffy feeling under your feet.

Of course the way in which you choose to spice up your wood floor is up to you, you may feel that it’s unnecessary to try and frill it up when it is such a stand out beauty on its own. That’s the great thing about wood floors, they are so versatile that it doesn’t matter if you dress them up or dress them down; their natural beauty always shines through.
