Brushed and oiled oak flooring is the obvious choice if you don’t want a perfectly smooth shine to your floor. It has by far much more natural character than its lacquered counterpart. This is due to the finishing process used for brushed and oiled oak flooring; before the oil is applied, the surface is brushed to remove any new growth of the wood that sits on top and conceals the older wood underneath that has much more character. When the new growth is brushed off, you will be able to see many more features of the older wood such as knots, rings and natural grain of the wood. This looks great if you prefer the natural or rustic look.
