Solid & Engineered Parquet Flooring

Parquet wood is made up of individual wood blocks which are then arranged into a parquet pattern. Parquet comes in a range of patterns including herringbone and chevron, all of which come in a variety of different shades, styles and finishes. Parquet flooring is the perfect choice if you’re looking to add luxury and class to your home, along with a elegant modern touch too.

What is Parquet Flooring?

Parquet flooring uses a variation of wooden blocks to create different floor patterns. The name parquet originates from the French word parchet which dates back all the way to the late 1600’s. Back in the early days, parquet wood flooring was used to replace marble floors which required constant cleaning, tending to rot the joist under the floor. In recent times, parquet flooring has been much easier to mass produce, meaning these floors no longer come with a heavy price tag, making them a much more affordable option for many.

What is Parquet flooring made from?

Parquet flooring comes in both solid and engineered wood; solid wood flooring being solely made up of one species of wood and engineered being made up of both solid wood (wear layer) and multiple layers of plywood. Engineered parquet wood flooring works with underfloor heating, allowing all the heat to be transferred through without warping or shrinkage as solid wood would suffer from. Solid and Engineered parquet can both be sanded and refinished multiple times allowing you to rejuvenate your flooring - this process is usually carried out once every 15 years. On the whole, parquet flooring comes in quite a few different species such as oak, merbau, walnut, and more. Oak is the most popular species of wood simply because it is so versatile and can be finished and stained to any colour.

How to Install Parquet Flooring

There are a few different options when installing parquet flooring - it all depends whether the fitting system is tongue and groove or click loc. If the flooring product is tongue and groove, the options you have are either to float the floor by only gluing the tongue and groove together and laying the blocks otherwise dry, secret nailing the flooring to a wooden sub floor, or finally bonding the flooring directly to the sub floor using an adhesive. If the flooring comes with a click loc system, no glue or nails are required as this simply just clicks together.
