Top Questions on Solid Wood Flooring
The best solid wood flooring is made out of durable, high-quality wood that can be sourced sustainably. That’s why most of our flooring is made from oak.
Solid wood flooring is extremely hardwearing, especially when it comes to wear and tear, and it can be sanded down multiple times to lift any scratches or marks that appear over time. When properly cared for, these hardwood floors can last up to 100 years which means they have a much longer lifespan than many other types of floors.
Our range of solid oak wood floors includes three distinct grades which each offer their own individual features. Prime oak is the purest grade available and has little colour variation and no knots, making it perfect for those wanting a minimalistic, contemporary look. For those who favour a more aged, worn looking floor, our Distressed oak will be a great fit. This grade of wood has been designed with large cracks and knots for a gorgeous, natural finish. The final option is Rustic oak, an authentic looking style that features some of the knots, imperfections and colour variation found in real oak. This style oozes homey charm and is ideal for creating a cosy, inviting space.
Fitting a good quality underlay underneath your solid wood flooring can help absorb noise, decrease heat loss and provide a more cushioned feeling underfoot.

Yes, you can lay a solid wooden floor over a concrete subfloor. However, you’ll need to ensure the subfloor is properly prepared for the flooring to be laid. The subfloor must be completely flat, otherwise your floor won’t be able to be laid neatly. You’ll also need to apply a damp-proof membrane to prevent moisture from the concrete seeping into the wood and damaging it.
When it comes to choosing a floor for your home, there’s no one-size-fits-all. Solid wood will always be a top choice for most households, however, engineered wood or laminate are often better for high-moisture areas.
Solid wood can also be more difficult to install than other types, so if you’re planning to DIY your flooring, you may want to look into other options.
Solid wood must be nailed or glued to the subfloor, so it can’t be installed as a floating floor. As wood is a natural material, it’s more susceptible to environmental changes and can expand and shrink depending on the temperature or moisture level. However, if your solid wood floor is attached to the subfloor, this is unlikely to be a problem.
