Thorpe Ranch Oak Herringbone is 70mm(W)x350mm(L) and 18mm thick. The fact we offer a 25 year guarantee with this product truly shows just how much faith we have in its quality and durability.

Solid wood floors last a life time thanks to their incredible durability. Not only does it look stunning, but solid wood floor also attracts less allergens, dust and mould making it a hygienic flooring choice too. Additionally, solid wood floors are hard wearing making them perfect for high traffic areas and will be able to retain its stunning aesthetic. Because of it's natural state however, it is not recommended that you use a solid wood floor with underfloor heating as it is unable to expand and contract with such fluctuations in temperatures. As well as this, the parquet flooring is a huge trend this year and is currently the favourite among interior designers. This means that installing as parquet style floor in your home would help to instantly modernise and bring some life to your floor.

The micro beveled edges on this flooring add depth and definition, meaning they make a room look larger but to a lesser degree than ordinary beveled edges. The fact this floor is oak also adds atmosphere to a room - the grain and knots add elegance, whereas the shade fits in with modern dark and wooden decor.

The grade of this product is the ‘rustic’ grade. This means that certain planks will have more knots and natural imperfections - giving the product much more character.

This floor is smooth and lacquered. This gives a luxurious feel while the lacquer finish gives the timber ultimate protecting and durability as well as providing it with a maintainable surface area, however as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible.

Installation

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.

Product looks great down, and is very natural. Knots give character, and different colors in planks make for good contrast. If you have many different colored wooden furniture in one room, it will help tie them together.
