Is herringbone expensive to lay?
You’ve probably heard that laying herringbone is costly, but what you might not know is that the type of floor you choose is a big factor in the overall cost.
Traditionally, herringbone floors are made from wood and laying herringbone wood flooring can take several days, racking up a hefty installation fee. However, LVT herringbone flooring is much quicker and therefore, cheaper to install, making it perfect if you’re on a smaller budget.
LVT is also a lot easier to fit than wood, so you could opt for our parquet vinyl click flooring and skip the installation bill altogether!
That said, it’s worth getting a quote from several reputable fitters before deciding what type of flooring to buy.
Can you do herringbone with LVT?
While a herringbone pattern is traditionally done with solid or engineered wood, you can get the same elegant, timeless look using LVT flooring.
Herringbone luxury vinyl flooring boasts many benefits over its wood counterpart. The LVT version is affordable to buy, quick and easy to install and many are fully waterproof, making them an ideal choice for homes with kids or pets.
However, it’s worth noting that LVT doesn’t have the extremely long lifespan of solid or engineered wood, so you might have to replace it after 25-30 years.
How thick is LVT herringbone flooring?
Our LVT herringbone flooring comes in a range of thicknesses, allowing you to pick whichever suits your needs best.
The thinnest of our herringbone pattern LVTs are 5mm thick. These are the most affordable of our herringbone LVT collection so they’re perfect if you’ve got a smaller budget!
The next level up in thickness is our 6.5mm herringbone luxury vinyl flooring. This range offers a bit of extra cushioning because its material is slightly thicker.
Our 8mm range has our thickest LVT herringbone options. These offer the most realistic thickness to our natural oak wood floors.

Is herringbone LVT flooring easy to install?
Our range of LVT herringbone flooring includes click-fit options which are designed for quick and easy fitting. There’s no need for nails or glue, all you need to do is ‘click’ the tiles into place to secure them!
We recommend following our guide How to Lay Parquet Flooring, as well as the guide for your LVT floor, as you’ll need to use very precise measurements when fitting your herringbone LVT.
Does herringbone flooring make a room look bigger or smaller?
One of the reasons we love herringbone flooring is that it can create the illusion of more space, making your room feel larger than it is. We recommend laying your herringbone LVT parallel to the longest wall in your room to get this effect.
Remember that the colour you choose will also affect how big your space looks. If you want to maximise your room, lighter shades will make it look bigger, while darker shades will make it seem smaller.
Is LVT flooring better than laminate?
Our SPC LVT herringbone flooring has a tougher, more resilient core - making it more durable than laminate - and boasts better waterproofing, so it’s the ideal choice for bathrooms and wet rooms.
That said, flooring is a very personal choice and what’s best for your home will depend on your household and your style. You might find you prefer the look and feel of laminate, so take advantage of our free samples if you’re unsure.
Does LVT flooring scratch easily?
Our herringbone luxury vinyl tiles are made with the realities of life in mind, which means they can handle a little wear and tear.
However, there are a few things you can do to prevent damage to your floor, such as trimming your pets’ claws regularly, using felt pads on furniture and keeping stiletto heels away.
