The Weeton Apple Oak 90 x 18mm is a elegantly textured solid wood flooring product which is constructed solely from solid oak. Once the raw material has been cut and machined into shape a brush goes over the top of the surface creating a textured feel. Not only does a brushed product look and feel more natural, the brushed markings make it very hard for any scratches to show as the flooring is already textured, we always recommend brushed flooring products for any pet owners. Once the floor boards have been brushed we apply seven coats of hard wax oil. The plank width of this product is 90mm (9cm) which is quite a narrow plank, narrow planks are often seen to make the rooms look larger as more individual planks fit into one room. The overall thickness is 18mm (1.8cm) and the lengths are random between 300-1800mm (30-180cm). With the plank thickness being 18mm this will allow you to sand and refinish the flooring approximately seven times and this process is usually carried out once every 15-20 years. Once the flooring has been sanded down you would then need to apply another finish back on top of the surface, many people use this opportunity to change the colour of the flooring by applying a different stain. Solid wood flooring is a great investment as you can change the appearance multiple times and the shelf life is over 100 years. This flooring comes with a tongue and groove fitting system giving you a few different installation options, the most popular would be to fully glue the flooring down to the sub floor but you can also lay the floor as a floating floor where you glue the tongue and groove together and the rest of the floor then floats above the sub floor or you can secret nail the nail flooring to a wooden sub floor. The grade of this 90mm oak flooring is rustic meaning you will come across some natural knots which is most often seen as the main attractive when purchasing hardwood floors. The solid wood flooring product comes from our Weeton range we which offer a 25 year manufacturers guarantee.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:Tongue and Groove vs Click
Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.
• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.
• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.Floating
Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.
Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.Fixing
Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.
Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
