The Buckinghams were taking on a complete home renovation, with the aim of creating a cosy, timeless and functional space to accommodate their young family. After deliberating over multiple floors, they fell in love with the natural beauty of our Studley Corn Oak floor, an authentic wood floor, durable enough to handle busy family life.

Floor used in this project: Studley Corn Oak

Why did you choose Luxury Flooring?

From the start, we found the customer service attentive and thorough. Despite my multiple questions, the Luxury Flooring team were always happy and timely with their responses. We also found the samples we received were of a good size, so we could really appreciate the variation in the wood.

What was most important to you when designing your room?

When I step into my home, I want to feel comfortable, safe and calm, and I truly believe the interior choices we make contribute to those feelings. Equally, with young children and a dog, we needed a space that would be functional and adaptable.

What’s your story? I.e. What were you trying to achieve?

This is our second property, and our second (and much bigger) complete self-renovation. As a family with young children, we wanted to create a cosy and timeless home that’s functional and flexible enough to evolve in the years to come.

What does your home situation look like? I.e. do you live with family, have pets?

We’re a husband and wife DIY team, with a toddler, baby, and dog. It’s busy and beautifully chaotic!

What qualities were you looking for in your new flooring?

The most important thing firstly was the aesthetic look. I knew we wanted something natural looking, with wide floorboards and a beautiful varying grain. Secondly, we wanted something hardwearing, easy to clean and compatible with underfloor heating (we’re currently mid rear extension where this is required).

What advice would you give to someone looking to transform their floor?

Research the look - look on Instagram, Pinterest, when you’re out and about (cafes and restaurants are always inspiring to me). Then research the best type of floor to meet your needs. Don’t rush, order plenty of samples and place them in different rooms with different lighting.

Did any trends inspire your interior choices?

I would say our overall interior choices are Scandi-inspired, with some Japandi and rustic themes. We love using natural and raw materials, with neutral accents.

How has your new floor improved your home?

It’s transformed our home and completed the look we set out to achieve. We can’t wait to finish the rear extension so when we open the front door, we see the flooring run from front to back!

How did you decide on the colour and style of your floor?

We knew we wanted something light and natural looking, with wide boards. The Studley Corn Oak met all those requirements and had a beautiful natural grain too.
