Solid Wood Hallway Flooring
When you enter a home your first look acts as a first impression, both for the home and for the owner. A solid wood would therefore be a perfect introduction, offering a traditional and sophisticated appearance.
Hallways and stairs are areas that experience a lot of foot traffic so choosing durable options is of key importance. Solid wood floors are known for their incredible longevity, being able to withstand heavy use and wear because of the solid construction.
Additionally, the damage that may occur with floors so close to the entrance and as part of the entrance system (we advice having a three step entrance system to take best care of your interior floors), can be repaired easily with solid wood floors. Once a solid wood floor begins to look tarnished you can simply sand the floor down and refinish it with the desired oil or lacquer. You won’t have to do this for at least the first 10-15 years and the thickness of the boards will vary but the average solid wood will be able to be refinished a number of times, therefore lasting decades.
If you choose a light wood or a natural oak dust and dirt will be more easily hidden. A brushed texture will also ensure scratches aren’t very visible but this is only advised in areas like the hallway or stairs where young children won’t be playing. Light shades will make the areas look larger which can be beneficial for cramped hallways and landings, especially with a wider plank for an expansive effect.
The lack of furniture in a hallway can be a benefit as well as it allows you to install a parquet floor like our solid oak herringbone styles, which will be showcased better with the open space. For an entry way this will add an air of elegance which you can the continue throughout the house.
