Don’t panic that half the year has gone by already, there’s still plenty of time to hop on board this years top wood flooring trends. In this blog we’re looking at which trends have made an impact on the design world and which floors you should be taking notice of. From dark boards to statement designs, this year has seen wood floor well and truly adopt the modern trends to take over as the most thought of design feature of any home.

Dark Boards

Showing a huge surge in popularity currently are darker boards with more and more customers seeking a species with a richer colour. While previously paler and lighter floors held the limelight, darker floors are now experiencing their surge in interest respectfully. Darker floors create a bold, warm and sophisticated feel to any home. As well as this, a darker floor can tend to create a more vintage glamour look, something that is definitely on trend right now. If you’re looking to create this look we would recommend looking at species such as oak, walnut or acacia.

Parquet

Parquet flooring has a rich history first appearing in the 16th century before eventually losing its popularity to modern floorings such as carpets. However, from the 1980’s parquet flooring has slowly been making a comeback with it making a full return this year as the herringbone style has massively taken off. Herringbone floors add a great sense of style and fluidity to a room that is incredibly modern and on trend. If you’re really looking for a floor that is trending try a herringbone floor with a dark wood for a stunning floor effect.

Brushed Finishes

Also finding itself popular this year is the brushed finish. The brushed effect on a floor refers to the process of a brushed effect floors refers to the wire brushing of the surface of the plank to expose older wood underneath to show a traditional grain, knots and rings. With a brushed finish you have the option of an oil or a lacquer. An oil soaks in to to product and strengths from the inside out whereas a lacquer isn’t absorbed by the wood but rather forms a protective top layer. Both have their advantages but ultimately its up to you which you would prefer so if you’re unsure which to choose, our team would be happy to take your call and best advise you.

By keeping on top of current trends in the flooring industry you can create a floor that will stay looking modern, fresh and contemporary. This will also massively help if you are trying to sell a property after a renovation project, as a trendy looking home will appeal to potential buyers.
